Come March 1, 2013 a movie based on real life events, that should ideally have never happened will release bringing back to life the terror of November 26, 2008. Ram Gopal Verma’s The Attacks of 26/11 has been touted to be stunning and highly accurate. Checkout, what some of the early celebrity viewers of the film thought about it?

The attacks of 9/11 in 2001 left a gaping void in the magnificent skyline of New York City forever scarring the American psyche and global airline travel. It was then that the United States of America vowed to root out the evil head of terrorism from the face of the planet. While they did a good job of keeping their borders safe, they were unable to prevent a much deadlier attack almost seven years later in the heart of yet another global city. The attacks of 26/11 in India’s most populous city of Mumbai was in many ways similar to 9/11; well-planned, coordinated and deadly.

The image of the burning dome of Taj, the empty CST station, the bullet marks at Leopold Café and the peaceful candlelight march come flooding back when one talks about the attacks of 26/11, 2008.

Shekhar Kapur felt the same way when he recently watched “The Attacks of 26/11“, a cinematic depiction of the events that happened on that fateful night. He used the micro blogging site Twitter to express his feeling after watching the movie.

Ram Gopal Varma has organized special screening of the movie for various influential members of Indian society. Recently one was arranged for Senior BJP leader L.K. Advani in Delhi. Advani was present there along with various other leaders who cut across party lines to watch the film. Advani was moved to tears in the climax of the film. ‘Brilliant’ is what the senior politician expressed after watching the attacks of 26/11.

Others present at the screening along with Mr.Advani included the likes of Shah Nawaz Hussain, Sanjay Nirupam, Naveen Jindal Balbir Punj, Raj Babbar among others.

Even superstar Amitabh Bachchan who saw the first draft of the movie praised it. Ram Gopal Varma has done tremendous research on the subject as well as the characters and this can be seen in the reaction of anyone who has seen the movie. The film is restricted to the night of the incident and has focused on the happenings between 9 pm to 1 am when Kasab was caught. The shooting of the film completed on December 10, 2012 with last shot of the massacre at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus station. The owner of Leopold Cafe actually plays himself in the film.
