2011 – The Year When These Shining Stars Left For Their Heavenly Abode
The past 12 months that shaped the year 2011 were signified by adversity, revolution, possibility, inspiration, loss and finally remembrance. If the Mayan’s are to be believed the world will come to an end on December 21, 2012 and going by the events that took place in 2011, they might not be wrong.
In particular this year was marked by tremendous losses to the global media and entertainment industry as its shining stars left for their heavenly abode leaving behind great lessons, inspiration and memories for the rest of us. The death of Steve Jobs on 5 October, 2011 marked the start of a sad end to what had already been a tough year. One by one, well-known personalities and legends in their fields departed after succumbing to long standing illnesses or sudden loss of health. Ghazal Maestro Jagjit Singh, lyricist, musician and poet Bhupen Hazarika and the evergreen actor Dev Anand passed away in the last quarter of 2011.
Earlier in the year Hollywood beauty Elizabeth Taylor, spiritual guru Sathya Sai Baba, Amy Winehouse and Shammi Kapoor permanently retired from their life journey as well. Among those who passed away Amy Winehouse and Steve Jobs departure came as the biggest shock as it was sudden and unexpected.
Like every new year, 2012 too brings with it a lot of hope and plenty of entertainment options to look forward to. However, lets just hope that the universe is much more kind and doesn’t take away anymore of our beloved stars in the oncoming leap year.
